A slim majority of Everton fans would back their club chasing Gary Cahill in January.

The Chelsea defender, who has won the Premier League twice since moving to Stamford Bridge, is entering the final months of his contract in London and could be set to leave the Blues in the mid-season window.

Maurizio Sarri has shown the former England international and captain will not be part of his plans at Stamford Bridge, either, and will reportedly allow the defender to leave in January to prove his credentials ahead of his permanent exit.

Luring the 61-cap international to Merseyside would bring great quality and experience to Everton, and the Aston Villa product’s strong leadership skills will help to iron out the mishaps that thwarted the Toffees against Tottenham before Christmas.

Having taken the lead through Theo Walcott, a glaring error by Jordan Pickford and Chelsea-loanee Kurt Zouma gifted Man of the Match Heung-Min Son an open goal to tap home the equaliser just six minutes later.

Asked whether they would like to see Cahill join in January, Everton fans were split in a recent Football FanCast poll.

While a combined 58% were in favour of a move in some capacity, 42% of Toffees supporters rejected the idea. Out of the 58% that said yes, only 19% would forge a transfer on a permanent basis in the winter market - with the remaining 39% preferring a loan move.
