Despite finding the back of the net against Fulham on Saturday, big questions still remain about Cenk Tosun’s ability to lead the line for Everton. Given the Turkey international’s failure to be prolific for the Toffees in his Premier League career so far, Marco Silva could soon find himself in the market for a new striker.
Should the Merseyside club decide to invest in a new centre-forward in January then Mario Balotelli may be one of the most enticing prospects on the market. The 36-cap Italian international’s contract with current club Nice is set to expire at the end of this season, meaning that he may be available for a cut price fee in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The 28-year-old has proven his quality in England before, but struggled during his last spell in the Premier League – a season with Liverpool. However, since joining the Ligue 1 side in August 2016, the striker has rediscovered his goalscoring touch, improved his off-field disciplinary issues and even earned a recall to the Italian national team set up. All that remains is to return to the Premier League and prove he still has what it takes to score goals in England. Everton could offer him that chance in January.
However, when we asked Toffees fans if they’d like to see Balotelli at Goodison Park in January, only 46% said yes. See the full results below.
