According to the results of our recent poll, 77 per cent of Everton fans would be happy with Kevin Strootman as a replacement if Idrissa Gueye joins Paris Saint-Germain in January.

French website L’Equipe recently reported that the current Ligue 1 champions are looking to add a defensive midfielder to their squad in the winter window and that Toffees midfielder Gueye is on a shortlist of options.

Considering the ever-increasing stature of PSG, it is unlikely that the 29-year-old would turn down a move if an offer came in. However, Everton must ensure that they have an adequate replacement lined up as Gueye is crucial to Marco Silva's side.

The Senegalese international does the dirty work, winning tackles and breaking up play so those around him can flourish in possession.

One man who could do that is Marseille's summer acquisition Kevin Strootman, who has managed an average of 3.5 tackles per game in Ligue 1 so far this season - only slightly less than Gueye's 4.1 in the Premier League.

Although he only joined his current club in the previous window, Everton may have an advantage in persuading Strootman to join the club in the form of Dutch director of football Marcel Brands. Check out the full results of our poll below.
