Everton were one of the busier Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, and they look to be bustling behind the scenes as the January market comes to a close.

According to Sky Sports, a deal has been agreed in principle for the club to sign Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City on loan for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old has struggled for game time under manager Pep Guardiola in the 2017-18 campaign having started just five Premier League games and coming off the bench in a further four.

Mangala's future at the Etihad Stadium looked even more bleak when the runaway league leaders recruited Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao this week.

It appears that the defender, who joined City from Porto in 2014 for a fee thought to be in the region of £31m, has a chance to revive his career as a move to Merseyside looks to be on the cards.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has already brought in bodies to bolster the attack, with Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott joining the charge.

Many fans have urged for a new left-back to enter the fray due to the ageing legs of Leighton Baines and the out-of-position Cuco Martina failing to impress.

However, it seems that the Toffees will have to settle for a left-sided centre-back in Mangala, who is sure to put the likes of Michael Keane, Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka on alert.

With the rumour rumbling, we asked Everton supporters whether the potential deadline-day arrival of the Frenchman would be a positive signing for the club, who sit five points above relegation in ninth place.

According to our poll, a large majority of 73% believe that Mangala will slot in well to the team's defence if a deal goes through.

The former Standard Liege defender spent last season on loan at La Liga side Valencia, where he made 30 appearances in total.
