Whenever a player admits regret in not signing for a certain club, fans of that club wonder what could have been.

According to the Daily Record, Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata recently admitted that he turned down the opportunity to join Everton in his early 20s.

The Belgian had plenty of promise while in the youth academy at Manchester City, but he failed to live up to the hype.

In 2015, the defender left the blue half of Manchester for good following loan spells at Bolton Wanderers and FC Twente.

Boyata eventually settled at Celtic and has been part of the Scottish outfit for the past three years.

The Belgian has had some difficult stints along the way, but he is beginning to become a positive member of Brendan Rodgers's team.

The 27-year-old's contract at Parkhead is due to expire at the end of the season, which would leave him available for a free transfer.
