Everton fans have been debating a swoop for Alfie Mawson, and the majority of fans would love to swoop for the towering Swansea defender.
Swansea City co-owner Jason Levein has admitted that Mawson’s future is “unclear” following interest from the Premier League, and the blue half of Merseyside clearly fancies their chances.
Reports have suggested Yerry Mina is the Toffees top target to buff up their defence, but the 24 year-old Mawson could be a more reliable option thanks to his experience in the Premier League.
The young Englishman was unlucky not to find himself in the World Cup squad, and he was the one silver lining in Swansea’s relegation season, dominating Cenk Tosun in a 1-1 draw between his side and Everton at the Liberty Stadium in April.
“It’s unclear at this point,” said Levien when asked about the defender’s future.
“There are a few different ways that could work out. Alfie is a terrific player, he had a great couple of years with us and we value his abilities.
“Certainly we understand the market and there are going to be clubs interested in Alfie Mawson.”
The Toffees have already lost Ramiro Funes Mori, and Phil Jagielka’s age means they simply must add at least one new centre back this summer.
Mawson is calm, composed and an excellent leader for his age, so he could be the long-term replacement for Jagielka and an excellent partner for Michael Keane.
Fans clearly think so too, as 67 per cent backed a move. You can find the full poll results down below…
