Everton are in desperate need of a box-to-box midfielder who can spread the ball around and create chances, and rising Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini could be the perfect signing.
Everton were dumped out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night by Southampton, and the lack of control in the Toffees’ midfield was worrying to say the least.
Morgan Schneiderlin has never replicated the form he showed at Southampton, Tom Davies is yet to fulfil his potential and Andre Gomes is only at the club on a temporary deal, so Silva will have to sign a midfield partner for Idrissa Gueye next season.

Pellegrini could be the perfect solution, as the 22 year-old Roma starlet has the work rate to function in Silva’s high-tempo system and the technical ability to be spray the ball around from midfield.
The young midfielder already has 7 Italy caps, and his performance for Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday was truly breathtaking.
He created an incredible eight chances as the Italian giants beat Viktoria Plzen 5-0, although some wasteful finishing meant only one of those passes was converted for an assist.
He also whipped in ten crosses, four of which found a Roma shirt, all while completing 88 per cent of his passes.
The youngster’s versatility allows him to pop up in various areas throughout the midfield and attack, registering 69 touches in the demolition of Plzen, more than any other attacking player.
Pellegrini isn’t all technical skill and vision though, and he made two tackles and committed three fouls during the big win, which shouldn’t come as a huge surprise given that he averages nearly two tackles per 90 minutes in Serie A this season.
Pellegrini’s combination of vision, versatility and majestic passing is all wrapped up nicely with a typically Italian work rate, and he would be the perfect fit to partner Gueye in Everton’s midfield.
