According to The S*n, Everton are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Getafe defender Djene Dakonam, and they should bring him in on his current manager’s comments about him in 2018 alone.
Well, The S*n says that the Toffees, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are all interested in the player rated at £22m by the La Liga outfit.
The report says that the Spanish side have already rejected an offer of around £12.8m from Monaco for the 28-year-old, who they say was named in the La Liga Team of the Years in both the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons.
The 49-cap Togo international has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Getafe this season, with his side lying in seventh position in the Spanish top-flight standings having finished fifth last term.
In 2018, current Getafe manager Jose Bordalas, who was actually linked with the Everton post when Marco Silva was sacked last month, was asked who the best player that had worked under him was.
As per AS, he replied saying: “I have had very good players and I have very good players, if I had to choose one at the moment it’s Djené. He is a magnificent player.”
The fact that he has been alongside Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique of Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively in the La Liga Team of the Years in the past two seasons tells you all you need to know about the quality Dakonam has in his locker.
Call yourself an Everton expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?
His current boss’ comments only further underline that, by describing him as a “magnificent player”.
Given Carlo Ancelotti currently only has Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate to pick from as his senior centre-back options, another could certainly be needed before the transfer deadline on the 31st in order to ensure they are well stocked in an area where the Italian has already said he can’t separate the trio.
Getting a player who has been praised like he has been for £22m has to be seen as a no-brainer deal for director of football Marcel Brands.
