Everton have given South African midfielder Daylon Claasen a week’s trial as he tries to earn a move to the Merseysiders.
The 23-year-old prospect has been offered the chance to impress at Finch Farm and will train with the first-team squad for the rest of the week.
Claasen is currently under contract at Belgian side Lierse but, with his deal coming to an end this summer, he is looking at other options and would be keen on a switch to the Premier League.
Claasen, who knows Blues ace Steven Pienaar from the international scene, is an attacking midfielder who was voted best player of the 2009 CAF Under-20 African Cup of Nations.
He joined Dutch giants Ajax in 2008 but struggled to make an impact there so headed to Belgium where he has impressed for Lierse.
Claasen also has seven full caps for South Africa and would be available on a free transfer if boss David Moyes decides he is good enough for Everton in the Premier League.
