Stones to Chelsea? Everton eyeing quality replacement

Everton are lining up a move for impressive Celtic centre-back Virgil van Dijk amid claims that John Stones is edging towards a switch to Chelsea, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Toffees’ impressive 21-year-old defender is thought to be on the Blues’ radar as the transfer window reaches its climax, with and improved offer following a £20m rejected bid expected.

Further to this, Stones himself is thought to be keen on the move, and reports now claim that Van Dijk is in line to replace the ex-Barnsley man.

A fee of £10m may be needed for the Glasgow star, who is thought of as one of the finest talents in Scottish football after helping Celtic to back-to-back league titles since arriving from Groningen is his native Netherlands.

Everton chief Roberto Martinez is already low on defensive options without the possible loss of Stones, with both Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz having left the club this summer.
