Sunderland rocked as key star rejects offer to force Everton transfer

Lamine Kone has rejected the offer of a new contract from Sunderland as he looks to force through a move to Everton, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Ivorian defender was one of the stars of the Black Cats’ successful battle against relegation last term as he slotted seamlessly into Sam Allardyce’s team following his winter arrival from Lorient.

However, his future has been thrown into doubt of late amid a summer of upheaval at the Stadium of Light – David Moyes has been drafted in in place of ‘Big Sam’ – with Everton believed to have made him an £18m target following the exit of John Stones.

Sunderland reacted by offering him a fresh deal to stay put, but reports claim that Kone has turned them down as he looks to make a late move to Goodison Park.

The 27-year-old could form a new-look defensive partnership with Ashley Williams should a move to Merseyside go ahead.
