According to reports in the Daily Mail on April 14, Southampton are considering making a summer move for £12m-rated Young Boys striker Roger Assale, who has been in fine form for the Swiss outfit this season.

Goalscoring has been a huge problem for the south coast outfit throughout the campaign, and it has left them in real danger of losing their Premier League status as they currently lie in the relegation zone with just four matches left to play this term.

If they stay up, Saints may try to bring the 5ft 6in attacker to St Mary's during the summer transfer window, although the Daily Mail says they could also face competition for the 24-year-old's signature from top flight rivals Leicester City.

Meanwhile, Everton are another club that could be busy in the market this summer following a below-par campaign in which it appears they will end up in eighth at the very best.

Whether manager Sam Allardyce is in charge next term or not, the Merseyside outfit will be looking for a huge improvement in their bid to start competing with the top six clubs in the Premier League, and they will need to shift some players on and bring some new ones in during pre-season if they are to achieve that.

The Toffees may well be looking to strengthen in attacking areas, and Assale should certainly be on their radar if that is the case.

Here are three reasons Everton must hijack Southampton's bid to sign the Ivory Coast international…

While Cenk Tosun has started to hit some form for Everton in recent weeks, there will be a feeling at Goodison Park that the club needs more competition for the Turkey international next season in order to keep him motivated and at his best.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin still considered as a youngster and Oumar Niasse's future on Merseyside far from certain – even though fans on Twitter say they want to see more of him – the Toffees may well be on the lookout for a new striker during the summer transfer window, and Assale could fit the bill of what they are searching for.

If Everton are looking for a striker that can score goals and also create opportunities for his teammates too, then they should look no further than Assale.

According to Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old has scored 21 goals and provided a further 14 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions for Young Boys this term, while he has 27 goals and 16 assists in 57 matches for the Swiss outfit in total.

With his finishing and his ability to set up teammates too, he could be the perfect foil for Tosun at Goodison Park next term.

Everton and their fans will be feeling that they paid far too much for some players last summer following a big spending spree, and they well be looking to spend a little less in the upcoming transfer window.

The Daily Mail says that Assale is rated at £12m and given his goalscoring record and his ability to create chances as well, that fee could prove to be a bargain in both the short and long-term for the Merseyside outfit as they look to finally progress and compete with the very best in England in Europe.
