According to reports in the printed version of The Mirror earlier this month, via HITC, Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on signing Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen to boost their attacking options.

The west Midlands outfit are well on course for promotion to the Premier League as they currently lie four points clear at the top of the standings, and manager Nuno Espirito Santo seemingly wants to strengthen his squad in January to ensure that they go up this term.

Their owners have already shown that they aren't afraid to splash the cash following the additions of the likes of Helder Costa and Ruben Neves previously, and reports in Denmark in June suggested that Everton had made a bid of £18m for the 26-year-old.

The Toffees failed to replace Romelu Lukaku following his departure to Manchester United during the summer transfer window, and they have paid the price this term with new boys Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez struggling to step up to the plate.

The Merseyside outfit are likely to make a new centre-forward their priority in the New Year, and reigniting their interest in Jorgensen could prove to be a shrewd move.

Here are three reasons Everton should hijack Wolves' bid to sign the Dane…

Goals

With just 12 goals in their opening 12 Premier League matches this season, it is clear to see what one of Everton's main problems is.

They need a centre-forward who can come in and find the net on a regular basis in the second-half of the campaign, and Jorgensen certainly has the record to suggest that he could do exactly that.

With 29 goals in 55 Feyenoord appearances and eight goals in 28 caps for Denmark, the 26-year-old could make the difference for the Merseyside outfit.

His qualities

While Everton would want Jorgensen to find the net on a regular basis if they did bring him to Goodison Park, they will also be well aware at the number of goals he has been involved in during his time with Feyenoord.

As well as the 29 goals he has scored in 55 outings, he has also provided a further 19 assists and it shows that he has the awareness to set his teammates up as well.

Standing at 6ft 3in tall Jorgensen is strong in the air – shown by the fact that he has won 19 aerial duels in nine Eredivisie appearances this term according to Squawka – and good at holding the ball up, while he is also relatively quick despite his height and has a good dribbling ability.

A realistic target

Considering the position they currently find themselves in, Everton may have to be realistic when it comes to the players they could bring in during the January transfer window.

While there is nothing wrong with being ambitious having been linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani and Arsenal's Olivier Giroud in the past, they are individuals that the club are hugely unlikely to get in the New Year with the 2018 World Cup just around the corner.

Signing Jorgensen would certainly be a better option for the Merseyside outfit as he looks to have all of the attributes to be a success in the Premier League, while he should also be approaching the prime years of his career over the course of the next couple of seasons.
