According to French media outlet Le10Sport, new Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is eyeing up a potential January move for Napoli attacker Lorenzo Insigne, who would be a massive upgrade on summer addition Alex Iwobi.

What's the word, then?

Well, Le10Sport report that the upcoming transfer window is in the back of the experienced Italian's mind, and that he dreams of adding the versatile forward to his Toffees squad in the New Year.

The report adds that the 28-year-old has repeatedly expressed the desire for a new challenge having been with the Serie A outfit since 2010, although any exit has been blocked by president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The source then ended by speculating on whether he would be forced to stay again if Everton do come calling.

Massive upgrade on Iwobi

It's fair to say that the Nigeria international hasn't exactly set the word alight following his summer move from Arsenal, so far scoring twice and assisting once in 20 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit.

According to the games in which Transfermarkt has recorded the 23-year-old's position, he has played all across the midfield this term, with the slight majority of his outings coming on the left-hand side.

Iwobi has said previously that he prefers to play in the No.10 role rather than out wide, but he hasn't got his wish on a consistent basis since moving north.

And with Carlo Ancelotti preferring a 4-4-2 formation at Napoli previously, he may find that he is used out wide more often than not if the Italian plans to use that system.

Of course, the big problem here is that Insigne also plays the majority of his football from the left-hand side, as per Transfermarkt, and he is undoubtedly an upgrade on Iwobi.

The £54m-rated star has scored 81 goals and provided a further 72 assists in 324 outings for his current employers, while the African attacker has 17 and 28 respectively in 169 games.

With the report describing him as a "dream" addition for Ancelotti, he is clearly going to be a regular starter if he does join.

That could be bad news for Iwobi.
