Everton fans have taken to Twitter in disbelief after it was revealed by Catalan radio station RAC1 and that Roberto Martinez is the first option for the Barcelona job if Ernesto Valverde gets the sack.
Martinez managed the Toffees from 2013 to 2016 and helped the club get into the Europa League, whilst also embarking on a club-record seven game winning run during his first season.
In this era of ‘big 6’ dominance, has finishing 7th become as good as winning a trophy? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…
The Spaniard was perhaps unjustly sacked in May 2016 with one game of the season remaining; Everton were in 12th and had made the semi-finals of both domestic cups that year.
Given the way his spell at Goodison Park ended with fans calling for his head, plus his not-so-glamorous job history involving Swansea and Wigan, to see the current Belgium manager linked with a job as big as the Barcelona one is quite surreal.
It appears that a number of Everton fans on Twitter would echo that sentiment judging by their reactions on Twitter…
2 main names linked with the Barcelona job should Valverde leave; Martinez and Koeman 🤷🏼♂️ Might as well make it a hat tick of ex-Everton bosses and throw Allardyce in there! 🤣 #EFC

All is forgiven with Martinez if he sells us Gomes.

Seriously the fella should charge a fortune for 'how to interview well' seminars. https://t.co/WDGXZ7vDs3

Haha we all take the mick out of him, me included, but I actually think he’d be a good fit for them…

Phenomenal job, he’ll get them relegated, but phenomenal #VivaRoberto

Hope he gets it, nice fella

Martinez himself is so convincing, even when performances were awful at Everton he would make us thinking differently after seeing his post match interview. I don’t think it’s that suprising that he’s talked his way into the Barca job, he is an unbelievable salesman.

Fair play if Roberto has managed to blag his way to the Barca job. That is some special doing that
