Wigan midfielder Shaun Maloney has admitted that his future is far from clear following the Latics’ relegation from the Premier League.
As one of the club’s top performers across the season, the Scottish international is believed to be far from short of admirers, with Roberto Martinez keen for him to follow him to Everton.
Maloney played a huge role in Wigan’s shock FA Cup win, but was unable to prevent them from sliding into the Championship a matter of days later.
Now, he has hinted that his future at the DW Stadium is uncertain, after admitting that he hasn’t thought about where he will be at the start of next season.
“I’ve not really thought about it. Things are pretty up in the air, like us not having a manager,” he told the Mail on Sunday.
“Our chairman spoke about players leaving and staying, and us trying to bounce right back up.
“So there’s a bit of uncertainty surrounding the club but when we come back for pre-season, and get a new manager named, things will be a lot clearer.”
Maloney featured 36 times in the league last season, netting six times and providing eight assists.
Martinez, however, is keen to lure him to Goodison Park as he looks to impose his own philosophy on the Merseyside outfit.
