Fans question Austin’s England exclusion

Another international lull has not hit us but fortunately the upcoming fixtures for England could actually provide some sparks, with a World Cup qualifying clash against the old enemy Scotland on Friday before a showcase friendly against Spain.

The hostile atmosphere around the national squad is still present following Sam Allardyce’s spectacular axing just one-game into his tenure and that’s made the job of interim boss Gareth Southgate even more difficult.

All eyes were on the former Middlesbrough boss last night as he named his 23-man squad for the two upcoming games and it’s fair to say many were left frustrated with his decisions, with some questionable exclusions present.

Arguably the biggest overlooking was Charlie Austin, who is one of the Premier League’s best in front of goal this season- but Jamie Vardy, yet to score in 13 matches, keeps his spot.

Naturally, fans felt aggrieved by the situation and took to social media to discuss what they feel was a major error from Southgate- and it’s fair to say they have a point.
