Manchester United’s very public pursuit of Portuguese prodigy Renato Sanches ended in disappointment in the summer, with the Euro 2016 winger joining Bayern Munich, and Rio Ferdinand was desperate for the Red Devils to win the race.
As one of the finest young players in world football, Sanches could have been a superstar at Old Trafford and former Red Devils defender Rio Ferdinand told A Bola he would have dragged Sanches to the club.
“If I was a Man United scout, Renato Sanches would already be at the club. I’d have dragged him by his hair and said ‘let’s go!’”
“Renato is a modern player: Aggressive, strong, powerful, got technique, can shoot and pass. I like him. He’s young, but takes responsibility.”
So far in the Bundesliga, Sanches has struggled for regular playing time amidst a number of injury problems but, aged just 19, he’s tipped to become a world beater and has already made history with Portugal this summer.
It’s difficult to imagine Renato Sanches getting regular football at Manchester United though, despite his ability, as Jose Mourinho has the likes of Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and many more to select from.
