Fergie faces £10m transfer battle & New signing could end Rooney’s role – Best of MUFC

After the peal of trumpets that accompanied Robin Van Persie’s arrival at Old Trafford rang out the scene was set for the Dutchman to steal the show on his United bow. But by the time he was introduced from the substitutes bench in the 57th minute at Goodison Park he was on a salvage mission to rescue the Red Devils as they found themselves staring down the barrel of a defeat. It was almost as if United were brought crashing down to earth in the blue half of Merseyside after being comprehensively outplayed by the Toffees especially in midfield. The vibrant passing and movement of David Moyes’ men had United at sixes and sevens on more than one occasion. Additionally it demonstrated that Ferguson needs to invest in a combative anchor man to provide a solid base in front of the back four sweep up whenever possession is surrendered higher up the field. Despite it being clear for all to see Ferguson insists his business in the transfer market is done believing he has a squad capable of wrestling the Premier League title back from rivals City. He may come to regret that in May.

This week on FFC is Antonio Valencia the man to bring the best out of Van Persie at Old Trafford and why this isnt the fab four United need.

Quote of the Week

“It [the van Persie signing] sends out a big message. And it’s great when a player comes out and says he wants to come to the club as well. I’m biased but players should want to come to United because you’re always guaranteed to be up there challenging for trophies, there’s a great team spirit, top facilities and you get to play for a great manager. There are so many plus points.” Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United’s capture of Robin Van Persie sends out a serious message to their rivals.
