We all have the right to drape suspicion over Sir Alex Ferguson's astonishing admission that he wants to bring Robin Van Persie to Old Trafford this summer. The United boss revealed on Friday that he was interested in the Holland striker with the Gunners later disclosing that a bid had been submitted for their captain. But are his intentions entirely noble? Ferguson's battles with Arsene Wenger are the stuff of legend in the early 2000's as they each tried to outwit each other in an increasingly complex psychological battle. Could this be another mind game deployed to cripple his greatest foe? It's highly unlikely that Ferguson genuinely wants to sign Van Persie considering his age, susceptibility to injury and asking price. Instead it looks to be more of a ploy to whip up a storm with other potential suitors and hasten the 28-year-old's departure leaving the Gunners weaker in attack. You wouldn't put it past Ferguson to embark on a plan as grandiose as that.

This week on FFC does Ferguson's transfer policy over the last few years require extensive examination and which United striker could be on his way back to London?

"Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we've made a bid for him. We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we conclude a deal. There's no point talking about something that might not happen.
