Fergie weighs up £20m bid & Time to speak out over club ownership – Best of MUFC

Question: Is there anything actually happening at Old Trafford these days? It’s hardly the action packed summer we’ve come to expect from Sir Alex Ferguson as he chops and changes his squad in an effort to wrestle the Premier League title back from the blue half of Manchester. This week we were treated to the unveiling of Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell – Ferguson’s only pre-season signings to date – at a press conference on Thursday. It was fascinating listening to 18-year-old Powell talk being unable to sleep before his first day of training and his amazement at sharing a dressing room with Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. It’s a refreshing change from the norm of the arrogant teenager being corrupted by the fame and fortune that comes with the territory of being a professional football. He’s the type of level-headed individual that appreciates the chance afforded to him at a young age and shows a maturity they defies his tender years. Under the tutelage of Ferguson and the Red Devil coaching staff Powell could become a very special footballer provided he remains on the right path. A future England captain perhaps?

This week on FFC will the return from injury of United’s captain propel them to the title next season and which Brazilian does Ferguson have his eye on?

Quote of the Week

“I didn’t really sleep to be honest! I was quite nervous – it felt like I was starting a new school again. It’s been great. The lads are really nice and they’ve all helped me through the first week. I feel like I’ve fitted in well with everyone. The training is different but it’s something I’m enjoying and just getting used to.” Nick Powell speaks about his first week at Manchester United
