In the summer of 2014, Chelsea spent £32million on Diego Costa after he helped Atletico Madrid somehow win the Spanish La Liga from Barcelona and Real Madrid, and it proved to be a masterstroke from Jose Mourinho.

The Brazilian-born Spain international bad-boy took to the Premier League like a duck to water, and then continued his league-winning streak by helping the Blues become champions by scoring 21 league goals in just 26 games.

It seemed the Chelsea would once again be the team to beat this season, but Mourinho’s men have failed to replicate any of their good form, with Costa especially to blame for their lack of goals.

And after a public bust-up with his boss in the Champions League and then throwing a bib at ‘the Special One’ while he was benched, there could be no way back for Costa ahead of the January transfer window.
