It was a fairly entertaining 0-0 draw to kick-off the Premier League action this weekend as Bournemouth and Tottenham clashed on the south coast at the Vitality Stadium. In truth, there weren't many clear-cut chances though there were a fair few half decent ones, and both sides will feel they could have done more to grab all three points. The Cherries will feel, particularly in the first half, they could have won the game as Spurs seemed to still be feeling the effects of a Champions League trip to Bayer Leverkusen in the week. They looked hungry from the off and could have taken the lead within five minutes but for a smart Hugo Lloris save to turn the ball onto the cross-bar.As the game wore on, as you'd expect, Spurs grew back into it but they too could not breach their opposition's defence, leaving both to reflect on shared, and fair, points. It was an intriguing game to watch and here are FIVE things we learned from it...

But for this man, Spurs would have found themselves behind early on and it could have turned into worse from there. Tottenham really stumbled out of the blocks today and couldn't implement their pressing style as they would have liked, but managed to grow into the game to their credit. Against a better side, though, will all due respect to Bournemouth, they could have been out of the game.

Champions League set to take toll

We've been wondering how the Champions League would effect not just Spurs but all of the sides in the competition from this country and it does look as though it will give them some issues. The team that played today largely consisted of players that had featured against Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the week and whilst they weren't terrible, it wasn't a typical Spurs performance.

 Bournemouth well-established

AFC Bournemouth v Everton - Barclays Premier League

Bournemouth look truly like a Premier League team now. It's always interesting to see how a side does in their second season in the division with the famous second-season syndrome a notion that gets bandied around but the Cherries look like that won't be a problem for them. They competed very well indeed with the high-flying Spurs and could have won the game themselves.

Eddie Howe's stock continues to rise

Eddie Howe

The performance of the home side was a clear demonstration that both players and manager are well in-tune and Howe deserves more praise. He's kept his side motivated this season and they duly performed once again against a far better side on paper. They fought for every ball and matched Spurs stride for stride which is no mean feat. A fine performance from the young Englishman in the dugout once again.

Wilshere back to fitness

Jack Wilshere looks to be back to full fitness after competing his first 90 minutes in a rather astonishing two years. He was good on the ball as we have come to expect but equally he never really looked tired or troubled by fitness and that has to be mentioned given he's had so many problems in recent times. The challenge now is to see if he can keep it up over the coming fixtures.
