Former Man United & Chelsea flops grabbing headlines

Hoooooorayyyyyy! The football season is officially back – albeit we’re still waiting on the majority of Europe’s big leagues to put their beach towels away. The Premier League made it’s long-awaited return and, as things stand, Manchester City are the side to beat, with their 3-0 battering of West Brom on Monday by far the most convincing of the results laid down by the title contenders.

Further afield there were some very interesting talking points, ranging from debuts right through to downright odd incidents. Perhaps the weirdest thing we’ve seen on a football pitch came via once Chelsea forward Franco Di Santo, who picked up a spider from the turf and dropped it down the shirt of Schalke team-mate Leroy Sane. Banter? Or bullying?

From a Chelsea flop to a Man United flop who grabbed headlines for slightly more orthodox reasons. The now 36-year-old Diego Forlan is back in his homeland (Uruguay) after a spell in Japan and netted a debut goal for Penerol – it was a corker, too.

There were plenty of other talking points from the weekend, and our very own Marcus Speller will take you through the best, and the worst, below. Enjoy!
