French side fear ‘huge’ Manchester United or Liverpool bid

Kurt Zouma (Saint Etienne)Saint Etienne are fearful that a significant January bid from a Premier League side may force them to sell Kurt Zouma, according to reports from The Express.

The 18-year-old defender has been attracting interest from a number of England’s top clubs of late, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea thought to be at the front of the pack.

Despite admiring glances from some of Europe’s elite, St Etienne are desperate to keep the youngster, and have thus far held firm.

However, it is believed that they are afraid that a significant bid may be too good to turn down.

The Ligue 1 side enjoyed a fine 2012/13 season, but just missed out on Champions League qualification.

This contributed to the sales of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Joshua Guilavogui to Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid respectively.

They are keen to keep the teenager at the club for as long as possible as they look to re-build.

Zouma only penned a new contract with the club earlier this year, claiming at the time that he saw his future as a St Etienne player.

“This extension is a great vote of confidence in me from the club,” he said.

“St Etienne means a lot to me because it is where I was developed.

“This is a new step in my career. I still need to learn. I will also gain experience and I know that will help me to grow.”

Should Premier League clubs be looking at Kurt Zouma?
