Frenchman not good enough for Arsenal or Liverpool

Andre-Pierre Gignac is not good enough to play for either Liverpool or Arsenal, according to former Marseille man Chris Waddle.

The l’OM forward has been linked with the Premier League duo in recent weeks after his agent hinted that a January switch to Anfield or the Emirates Stadium could be an option for his in-form client.

Gignac has made a blistering start to the season in Ligue 1, netting nine goals to propel the Mediterranean side to the top of their division – ahead of heavily backed sides such as PSG and Monaco.

At 28, the French international has been linked with moves to England for some time, yet Waddle – who joined Marseille from Spurs in 1989 – feels that the striker is not actually good enough to play for Arsenal or Liverpool:

“I went out to Marseille and watched him last season, he’s a heavy lad, the manager’s got him fitter than he’s ever probably been,” he is quoted by the London Evening Standard.

“Not the most technical, not the most gifted, yes he’s scoring goals at the minute but Marseille are flying.

“Would he get into Arsenal’s team or would he get into Liverpool’s team? If I’m honest, no.”
