Fulham boss plays down rumours of MLS star return

Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders)Fulham manager Martin Jol has distanced himself from rumours of a January move to bring Clint Dempsey back to Craven Cottage.

The USA international left the West London club to join local rivals Tottenham last year, and has since exited White Hart Lane to sign for MLS giants the Seattle Sounders.

With the American season set to end ahead of the winter, Dempsey is free to make a short-term loan move back to Europe in a bid to stay fit for the 2014 World Cup, so long as his new employers grant him permission.

It is expected that they will allow the 30-year-old to do so if he wishes, which has led to speculation that he may return to Fulham.

But, when quizzed on the subject Jol was dismissive.

“It’s unbelievable speculation, which is nice. I never talk about players, especially when they are not here,” Jol toldĀ talkSPORT.

Tottenham have also been linked with a loan move for their former man, and are said to have first refusal on a deal.

A number of players have moved to the Premier League during the MLS off-season in recent years, including the likes of Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan and Thierry Henry, while David Beckham completed a similar switch to AC Milan during his time with LA Galaxy.
