It’s not been an easy start for Leroy Sane at Manchester City, with the £42m signing struggling to make an impression and seeing his opportunities in the first-team limited.
20-year-0ld Sane has started just four games in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side this season and questions are beginning to be raised regarding the youngster’s performances, as expectations were high due to his enormous price-tag.
However, he still has the backing of City team-mate and compatriot Ilkay Gundogan, who told Kicker he’s confident the former Schalke man can be a success for the Citizens.
‘It is only normal that Leroy is still finding his feet at Manchester City. I think Leroy has the character and personality to cope with this situation. He is confident and is well aware of his own qualities.’
‘You can see that he is still a bit shy, but he is still only 20. I went through a similar situation when I joined Dortmund from Nurnberg, so I know how he feels. He will do his own thing and he will do so here at Manchester City as well. I am giving him all the support he needs.’
City need all hands on deck after the international break, as their 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the weekend saw them concede top spot in the Premier League and slip to third place in the standings- two points behind leaders Liverpool.
Guardiola’s side do have a run of winnable games to close November though, with Premier League clashes against Crystal Palace and Burnley either side of a crucial Champions League clash with Borussia Monchengladbach, before a stern test at the start of December against Chelsea.
