According to Manchester Evening News, Benjamin Mendy has given Pep Guardiola a boost ahead of their trip to Anfield with the Frenchman returning from a foot injury.
However, ESPN reported last week that the Manchester City boss was furious with the World Cup winner for his attitude and lack of professionalism this season after Mendy turned up for a treatment session three hours late having been at Wembley to watch Anthony Joshua the night before.
Unfortunately for Guardiola, Fabian Delph, who would usually act as the stand-in for Mendy, has been ruled out of the top of the table clash after also missing the midweek win over Hoffenheim in the Champions League.
The Spanish boss does still have 21-year-old Oleksandr Zinchenko available though and he should stick to his guns regarding Mendy by starting the young Ukrainian international instead, to try to deal with the threat of last season’s PFA Player of the Year Mohamed Salah.
Mendy, who is valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, should be taught a lesson by Guardiola to ensure that his attitude improves, as the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss will need his squad completely focused if they are to retain the Premier League title.
