It was a conundrum that Arsene Wenger never really solved during the final few months of his reign following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s arrival in January – how to get the former Borussia Dortmund striker and Arsenal’s other potent forward, Alexandre Lacazette, into the same starting XI.
Unai Emery too, has spent much of the summer debating that exact problem. Throughout pre-season, the Gunners gaffer has switched between using Aubameyang as his left winger and Lacazette as the central forward, and simply dropping the latter to make room for the former at the tip of attack.
Clearly, the idea of playing both strikers appeals to the new Arsenal boss, but it’s still not wholly obvious how to get full value from them in the same starting XI, whether it’s actually feasible and whether the north London outfit’s first Premier League clash of the season this Sunday, against reigning champions Manchester City, is really the best time to use such a ploy.
So, Arsenal fans, would you try to get both strikers into Arsenal’s starting XI on Sunday and if so, which setup would you use? Let us know by voting below…
