Ross Barkley’s Chelsea debut, coming on against Arsenal in the League Cup semi-final’s second leg, received somewhat mixed reviews. While the 22-cap England international showed glimpses of the technical ingenuity he can offer the Blues, he struggled to make a real impact in the hour he was on the pitch after replacing Willian.
Indeed, when we asked Chelsea supporters to give individual performance ratings for the 14 Blues stars that featured against the Gunners on Wednesday night, it was the former Everton man who received one of the worst average ratings – just 4.6 out of ten.
But there are caveats to consider here. Barkley was played as part of the attack rather than the midfield and that was his first competitive game since the end of last season, when he suffered a long-term injury.
So, Chelsea fans, should Antonio Conte give the 24-year-old a chance to redeem himself this weekend with a start against Newcastle in the FA Cup? Let us know by voting below…
