Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a tremendous rise in recent years under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino but the Lilywhites have hit a blip in recent weeks.

The North London side lost three consecutive matches across all competitions before ending that poor run with victory over Brighton on Saturday, with their woes showing that Pochettino made a mistake by not strengthening his squad in the summer.

Midfield appears to be a weak area within the Lilywhites squad and it is ALSO a cause of concern as Mousa Dembele is rapidly approaching the end of his contract – but Spurs could benefit from taking advantage of a similar situation.

Across London, Declan Rice’s talks of a renewal with West Ham have hit a wall as the Hammers are not prepared to raise their offer of just £12k-a-week and the Republic of Ireland international could, therefore, be available for free in the summer.

If that is the case, then West Ham may be forced into a sale in January in order to get a fee for the 19-year-old’s services and while it would be a controversial move given the strained relationship between the two clubs previously, Pochettino should swoop to bring the talented defensive midfielder into his squad to fill that role and kick Eric Dier to the substitutes’ bench.
