HYS: Who should Spurs play at right-back vs Man United?

Kieran Trippier ended the World Cup as a nation’s sweetheart after his glorious free-kick found the net against Croatia, but he has struggled to live up to the hype since then.

Even before staking a claim to a key role in the Three Lion’s remarkable run to the World Cup Semi-Final, the former Burnley man never showed serious signs that he could be the right-back for Mauricio Pochettino for years to come, but has been able retain a starting role.

Part of that is also thanks to Serge Aurier showing himself to be a liability more often than not, allowing the 28-year-old from Bury to record 16 starts in the Premier League, along with five outings in the Champions League and Carabao Cup combined.

For the first time this season, however, Pochettino has a decision to make over who he fields at right-back, with Kyle Walker-Peters finally stepping out of the shadows and making his mark in the first-team.

The 21-year-old looked to have missed the train when he failed to establish himself upon Kyle Walker’s departure to Manchester City, but chalked three assists after being handed a starting role in December’s rout of Bournemouth and is starting to living up to his potential.

Pochettino must see that the England Under 21 international deserves a huge chance to impress once again against Manchester United on Sunday, otherwise he will be left to regret handing the overrated Trippier another bite at the cherry.
