While there’s an obvious danger in reading too much into Unai Emery’s first Premier League game in charge of Arsenal, it would also be naive to ignore the warning signs.
Using Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the same midfield just didn’t work, and if it becomes a choice of which playmaker to accommodate it’s surely the World Cup winner who must be prioritised.
Which begs an interesting question of who should start on the left flank when the Gunners travel to Stamford Bridge this Saturday, because there really aren’t that many natural wide options in Emery’s squad.
Mkhitaryan has already shown his shortcomings in the role, 40-cap England man Danny Welbeck is way down the pecking order, Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can play there if necessary but would be further away from goal and then we’re looking at youngsters like Reiss Nelson and Alex Iwobi.
So, Arsenal fans, who do you see as the solution to Emery’s left wing headache? Let us know by voting below…
