In August, Leicester’s title odds were the same as Piers Morgan becoming Arsenal boss

Leicester City’s current league position in comparison to this time last year, when they were rock bottom of the Premier League table with seven fixtures left to go, is testament enough to the King Power Stadium outfit’s miraculous campaign.

In stark contrast, the Foxes are now seven points clear at the Premier League’s summit and could push that margin to ten by the time second-place Tottenham Hotspur face Stoke City on Monday night – provided they claim a win against West Ham this weekend.

But another interesting way to illustrate Leicester’s incredible transformation from relegation battlers to title chasers is through the metamorphic change in their betting odds.

Indeed, at the start of the season, the Foxes were 5000-1 for the title – to put that into context, you’d get the same odds for Piers Morgan to become the next Arsenal manager, Elvis Presley being found alive and well in Leicester or Jamie Vardy replacing David Cameron as Prime Minister.

Now, however, they’re 1/5 for the title – the same likelihood as Kim Kardashian posting a naked selfie or snow to fall on Lapland on Christmas Day. You can see a full breakdown of Leicester’s change in odds from the graphic to the right – courtesy of our good mates at Betting Expert.

Incredibly, There are still 23 punters out there who haven’t cashed in bets placed at 5000/1. The biggest payout is £20, offering a staggering return £100,000.

Alex Donohue from Ladbrokes said; “For anyone struggling to come to terms with this incredible story, they have gone from having a 0.02% chance of winning the title to 83% with a few games to go. There has never been a shift in odds as dramatic in the entire history of sport and nor is there likely to be again.”
