As reported by The Mirror, Liverpool and Arsenal are set to go head-to-head for Paris Saint-Germain talent Julian Draxler this January.

What's the story?

With the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Philippe Coutinho not exactly on firm footing at both clubs, the Reds and the Gunners need to ensure they are in a position to attract elite attacking talent should either player move on.

One such attacking midfielder who could fit the bill is Julian Draxler.

The Mirror say both clubs have been alerted to his availability this January with Paris Saint-Germain looking to trim their squad after the massive money moves for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Does the left winger, who is rated at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, have what it takes to make an impression in the English Premier League?

Under utilised talent

With the attacking options Unai Emery has at his disposal, it's easy to recognise that while Draxler might not be exactly first choice in Paris, he is still an elite player who would likely fit in well at either Arsenal or Liverpool.

The German international takes his chances when presented to him, this season providing five assists and scoring two goals despite having to settle for being on the bench more often than not. The same was true last season when he managed to hit double figures in the scoring charts despite limited appearances.

With regular football he can be a real force in the English Premier League and provide the kind of attacking contribution Liverpool and Arsenal need to compete for the top four in the top-flight, especially if in the future they have to say goodbye to their current main men.
