According to AS, Everton and West Ham United are among a list of clubs interested in signing Atletico Madrid attacker Nicolas Gaitan.

What's the story?

Towards the end of December, the agent of Gaitan revealed that his client would be leaving Atletico in January in search of first-team football.

According to Jose Iribarren, there are a number of Premier League clubs interested in a player that has struggled for regular action at Atletico during the 2017-18 campaign.

The 29-year-old scored just three goals in 23 La Liga appearances last season, and has started just once in the league this term.

According to AS, Everton and West Ham are both closely monitoring proceedings as they consider a move for the former Manchester United target in the January transfer window.

Would Gaitan suit the Premier League?

Gaitan needs regular football to stand a chance of making the Argentina squad for next summer's World Cup, and it is understood that the Premier League does appeal to the attacker, who is valued at £13.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk.

It has just not happened for the Argentina international at Atletico, but it is worth remembering that Man United were previously strongly linked with the attacker, and he certainly has the qualities needed to operate in the Premier League.

He is the type of person that could thrive in the right atmosphere, and it is not a surprise that West Ham and Everton are considering a move for a player that has experience of playing at the highest level.

It might well be that West Ham and Everton have to battle for a number of transfer targets during the January window, which will be fascinating to watch.

Atletico want rid of Gaitan this month, which should make him available for a decent price.
