West Ham United and Everton are keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid winger Nicolas Gaitan, according to AS.

What's the story?

The Argentine has been linked with a switch to the Premier League in the past, having featured numerous times in the transfer gossip pages alongside Manchester United.

On this occasion, though, the Red Devils are not among a handful of clubs that are monitoring the Atletico winger.

Spanish publication AS reports that West Ham, Everton, Southampton and Crystal Palace are in the race for Gaitan's signature.

It is believed that Atletico are willing to offload the winger, who has scored four goals in 48 appearances for the La Liga outfit.

Would he boost West Ham, Everton?

Gaitan may not be as prolific at Atletico, but in a six-year spell at his previous club Benfica, the 29-year-old scored 41 goals and created 88 assists in 253 outings.

West Ham manager David Moyes has creative players at his disposal; Manuel Lanzini being one in particular.

Having that added spark in Gaitan, though, would give the East London outfit more options.

The Argentine could also help boost the goal tally of Javier Hernandez, who has registered just four strikes since his summer switch.

Everton are still crying out for an attacker following Romelu Lukaku's move to Manchester United.

Gaitan's current form suggests that he may not be the regular goalscorer that the club are looking for, but he would create opportunities up front.
