Liverpool face a major battle on their hands if they are to lure Timo Werner to the Premier League from RB Leipzig next summer, according to reports cited by TalkSport.

What's the story?

Seemingly not content with landing Naby Keita from the Bundesliga's breakthrough side last season, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are ready to raid RB Leipzig once again for the services of Timo Werner next summer following the German international's meteoric rise.

The 21-year-old forward has netted 24 goals in 34 league matches for RB Leipzig so far and has also made a major impact on the international stage, finding the back of the net six times in eight matches after making his debut for Joachim Lowe's side earlier this year.

Naturally, that's led to a wealth of interest in the young striker's services and Sport 1 state Real Madrid have joined Liverpool in the hunt for the forward who's widely regarded to be one of the best up-and-coming striking talents in European football.

Where would he fit?

Liverpool's attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane is one of the best in the Premier League but one downfall is the lack of a recognised central striker, which is why reports consistently link Timo Werner with a switch to Anfield.

Whether he'd be a guaranteed starter is debatable though as the aforementioned trio have proved to be extremely valuable to Jurgen Klopp's side this season, so Werner may remarkably have a better chance of securing regular football at Real Madrid.

With Karim Benzema turning 30 this year, chairman Florentino Perez is keen to rejuvenate Real Madrid's attack with the addition of a young striker and Werner is reportedly on their short-list, with Spanish outlet Don Balon claiming Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann and Juventus' Paulo Dybala are also being tracked.

Liverpool could have the financial firepower to compete with Real Madrid in the market if Barcelona succeed with a move for Philippe Coutinho next summer but RB Leipzig are determined not to sell, as they see Werner as an integral part of their side.
