According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City and Liverpool are interested in signing Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri.

What's the story?

Seri, who is valued at £22.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, was strongly linked with a move to Barcelona during the summer, but the deal went cold at the final moment.

Barcelona blamed Nice for their part in the breakdown, although the French club's president Jean-Pierre Rivere insisted that the Spanish outfit had pulled the plug on negotiations.

Seri, 26, is still said to be desperate for a move away from Nice, and according to the Daily Mail, Man City and Liverpool are both closely monitoring developments.

The report claims that the Premier League duo have watched the midfielder in action on a number of occasions this season with the view to making an official offer.

What are Seri's credentials?

Despite reportedly being unhappy at Nice, Seri has still featured on 17 occasions this season - scoring scoring once and providing four assists for the French outfit.

He managed seven goals in 39 appearances in all competitions last season, and his form was key to helping Nice end the 2016-17 campaign in third position in Ligue 1.

The midfielder was named in the UNFP Ligue 1 Team of the Year as a result of his brilliant performances, and it was not a surprise when Barcelona expressed an interest.

At 26, Seri, who is an Ivory Coast international of 16 caps, is still a couple of years away from his prime, but has shown that he could be asset for any of the major clubs in the world.

Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be closely monitoring developments, and if the French giants enter the race, it may well be difficult for Man City and Liverpool to bring Seri to the Premier League.
