In Focus: Man United want Kroos this summer

According to Don Balon, Manchester United will battle bitter rivals Manchester City for the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos at the end of the season.

What’s the story?

With Real Madrid struggling for form during the 2017-18 campaign, it is expected to be a busy summer transfer window for the capital giants.

Players are expected to arrive at the Bernabeu, and the futures of a number of the club’s established stars are believed to be under the microscope.

Kroos has been outstanding for Real Madrid since joining from Bayern Munich in 2014, but the German international is one player that could seek pastures new in the summer.

According to Don Balon, Manchester rivals United and City are both interested in Kroos, and the pair will lock horns in a battle for his signature.

Neither United nor City will have any problems coming up with the required transfer fee for the midfielder, whilst wages would also not be an issue for two of the wealthiest clubs in the world.

Why United have to win the race

City will say that they pulled out of the race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, but United will feel that they got one over on their rivals by securing the services of the Chilean last week.

The Manchester clubs will seemingly do battle once again, and it is vital that United win this race.

Michael Carrick is expected to retire this summer to take up a coaching role at Old Trafford, whilst Marouane Fellaini has been strongly linked with a move away from the club.

Mourinho is said to want a new midfielder to play alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, and Kroos would be the perfect addition to the middle of the park.

Sitting alongside Matic in a deep area, Kroos would release Pogba in the final third of the field.

Kroos has won three Champions League titles during a wonderful playing career, and it would be a sensational signing if the Red Devils could bring the German to the Premier League.
