Manchester United are willing to pay around £180m for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli, according to the Daily Star.

What's the word?

The England international has been a regular feature in the transfer gossip pages since becoming a crucial member of Mauricio Pochettino's team.

Since moving to the North London outfit from MK Dons in 2015, Alli has transformed into a Premier League starter and fully-fledged international.

The Daily Star reports that Jose Mourinho has his eye on the midfielder and the club are prepared to part with £180m to get the deal done.

The Red Devils are believed to be keen to fend off competition from Real Madrid, who are also interested in the Tottenham star.

Is Alli worth £180m?

The market nowadays throws around astronomical figures as though they were loose change.

Neymar's move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer shook things up as the Brazilian was sold by Barcelona for close to £200m.

Despite transfer fees rising, spending £180m on Alli does not seem justifiable.

United are one of the richest clubs in the world, therefore funds are not a problem, but as of right now, the midfielder is not worth £180m.

There is no denying the young player's quality and he would certainly add creativity to United, but a footballer would need to be the finished product to warrant a hefty fee.

Perhaps one day Alli will deserve that price tag, but his inconsistency this season means that he is not quite there yet.
