Once an Arsenal hero, Robin Van Persie scored goals for fun but after his £22.5 million move to rivals Manchester United his career has slowly rolled on a downwards slope. Despite quite a good goal scoring record for The Red Devils his move to Fenerbahce is not one other top players will envy.
As the 32-year-old’s career has descended in recent years it seems his country has finally followed suit as their dreadful European championship qualifying campaign has shown. After a terrific series of major tournaments for the Dutch including reaching the World cup final in 2010 and claiming third place in the 2014 World cup it seems they may not even reach the Euros in France.
A string of losses against the likes of Czech republic and Iceland have placed The Flying Dutchmen fourth in their group with key players Arjen Robben and in particular Van Persie not playing anywhere near the standards they have reached in the past. Their last game, an embarrassing 3-0 loss to Turkey, summed up their incredibly disappointing campaign in which none of the team performed.
In another qualifying group, Kyle Lafferty and his nation Northern Ireland are flourishing with the 27-year-old is in top form for his nation.
