With the growing number of English players moving abroad to seek first-team football, Jonjoe Kenny's loan move to Schalke isn't as surprising as it may have been even just a few years ago.

The 22-year-old will be heading to the German side on a season-long loan for the upcoming campaign, and will join up with the club after finishing international duty with the England Uunder-21s.

After news emerged about the move, Kenny took to Instagram to reveal his delight, and posted a picture of him signing the contract to make it all official.

Leicester star, and teammate of Kenny for the England youth side, James Maddison, replied to the post, and made it clear that he felt the defender could have a hugely successful season with Schalke.

The likes of Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund and Reiss Nelson at Hoffenheim have forged a pathway for young English stars to make the move away from the Premier League, and secure themselves regular first-team opportunities elsewhere.

With Seamus Coleman well ahead of him in the pecking order, it is understandable for both Everton and Kenny's sake that the right-back continues to progress in his development.

Whether the the defender can return to Goodison Park and become the number one option remains to be seen, but fans would surely love Maddison's prediction about the local lad to come true.
