Manchester United and Manchester City target Oscar de Marcos has signed a new long-term contract with Athletic Bilbao, as reported by talkSPORT.
The 25-year-old midfielder was a long-term target for Louis Van Gaal’s United, who almost secured his signature back in 2012.
United returned for him last summer but ended up signing other targets as new boss Van Gaal began the Old Trafford outfit’s new era, whilst City have also reportedly been keeping tabs on him.
But de Marcos has ended any hopes of a switch to the Premier League in the near future by signing a three-year extension that takes his current deal to 2019.
And to help ward off interest from the likes of the Manchester giants, the La Liga club have included a huge £31.5million minimum fee release clause to the contract.
De Marcos told Bilbao’s official website: “”I have said many times that I really wanted to go on and the club knew that.
“It was easy, it’s important to be here as long as they want.”
