A lot has been made of Leeds’ poor record from corners this season in recent weeks.

Here at FFC we’ve not been blind to the fact that the Whites have been wasteful from these set-piece situations.

Fortunately, it seems as if Bielsa has cottoned on to this trend as his side attempted a new corner tactic against Middlesbrough, and it actually worked.

Rather than pumping yet another ball into the box, United played it short as they worked the ball to the edge of the box where Mateusz Klich found some space to shoot.

The Pole’s effort flew into the top corner, and Bielsa’s tactical switch from the dead-ball situation was immediately gratified.

The 64-year-old joked after the game that he was taking the advice of the journalists who’d previously written about Leeds’ wastefulness from corners.

While the Argentine’s comments were rather tongue-in-cheek, it is good to see him acknowledging when he’s wrong.

Are Leeds going up?

This is our year

This is our year

Still time to bottle it

Still time to bottle it

It’s been incredibly tough to criticise Bielsa during his time as Leeds boss, but one thing he’s routinely been called is stubborn.

However, this move completely subverted those criticisms as he’s recognised that something isn’t working and rather than persevering with it he held his hands up and changed the tactics, and they were immediately more effective.

It seemed as if the Argentine wouldn’t be changing his ways after his comments in his pre-match press conference, but he did end up adjusting his strategy, and that paid off massively.
