Leeds beat QPR 2-0 last weekend and while players such as Tyler Roberts and Jack Harrison picked up the acclaim for scoring the goals, there’s one other man who particularly impressed the chief football writer at the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Indeed, Leif Davis’ cameo appearance had Graham Smyth waxing lyrical about the youngster as he showered him with some of the highest praise possible.

The 19-year-old featured for just six minutes but that was enough to draw plaudits.

What’s been said then?

The journalist compared Davis’ performance against QPR with one of the best showings the Champions League has ever seen.

“When Leif Davis came on, he just really showcased his pace. Legs were tiring and QPR were maybe a little bit more open because they were 2-0 down away from home and thinking they had to go for it a little bit and Davis just exploited that space on the left flank," Smyth said on the latest edition of the Inside Elland Road podcast.

He then went onto say:

“For a defender that would be terrifying, somebody coming on with that kind of pace. It was reminiscent of Gareth Bale against Inter Milan, pushing the ball ahead and backing himself to beat anyone else to it.

“He looks like a really good prospect and one that will just have to be patient.”

Incredibly exciting

Hearing Smyth say this should excite every single person associated with Leeds and the football club.

Bale’s performance against Inter has gone down in folklore as one of the greatest individual games in recent history, and it’s exciting to think that Davis is a player capable of replicating the pace and energy that the Welshman showed that night.

This comparison shows what an incredible prospect Davis is, and if he can continue these types of performances he will be a fantastic asset in the future.

So far he's struggled to really break into the team but with Ezgjan Alioski sitting out the last encounter through injury there could be a spot in the team.

Failing that, more substitute appearances of this nature could do wonders for his career in west Yorkshire.
