So following Arsenal’s decision to recall Eddie Nketiah, Leeds United have just the one senior striker on their books. Patrick Bamford has been hit-and-miss this season, once going on a goal drought of ten games in the Championship, and then having a hot streak of scoring six times in eight matches.
With promotion to the Premier League the main objective for the rest of the campaign, Marcelo Bielsa desperately needed his centre-forward to be firing on all cylinders against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Instead, the 26-year-old drew a worrying blank, failing to find the back of the net with his five attempts on goal.
A true test for any Leeds fan: Can you match these iconic images with the right results?
And with the Owls going on to win the game 2-0, Leeds fans flooded to Twitter to voice their frustrations with Bamford effectively costing them the game.
Patrick Bamford is an embarrassment, missed two sitters and didn’t even break a sweat. Same old every week. Get him out of my club

Bamford is not good enough never has been
— Eamonn (@etmcg78) 11 January 2020
Bamford is awful. I’m sick of hearing he does a lot of work for the team. He misses the chances. Not good enough. Plus Kiko getting beat near post. Really poor.

A few Leeds fans urged the club to sign a new striker to replace Bamford, with a couple even calling for Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani to get the chequebook out immediately.
New striker asap needed. Someone who can convert chances greater than Bamford.

When will the penny drop. We need a striker. Bamford cannot score.

Adams £15m. Gayle £15m. Thats the price of promotion. Radz has to go and make it happen. Bamford will not score enough goals. He never has in his career. Improved player, yes. Fit the system, yes. Work hard, yes. Goalscorer, no. #lufc

After Monday, that was utter tripe. Tired legs, misplaced passes. Much as I love Bamford, if we don’t strengthen this window for the final push it will be criminal and on us. Over to Orta and Radz.#lufc

A couple of supporters were understandably critical of Bamford’s lack of clinical finishing, with one fan insisting that the issue is “costing” the club.
Bamford is not clinical enough and he costing us. If Radz can’t afford to but quality, he must sell the club now! Cassilla can do one as well
— Greg (@iluvlufc001) 11 January 2020
I totally agree but we are in danger of missing out on promotion unless we get a clinical striker. Bamford is not clinical enough. Please sign somebody

Nketiah’s return to Arsenal means that the pressure on Bamford’s shoulders has only increased, and the Leeds striker just doesn’t appear to be entirely comfortable with that burden. His wastefulness against the Owls on Saturday afternoon cost Bielsa’s side big-time, and it really does reinforce the idea that they desperately need to sign some competition for him in this January transfer window.
