They couldn't do it could they?

That was the question that greeted every single win Leicester City notched up on their way to famously lifting the Premier League title last season and that is the very question being asked right now after another win in the Champions League.

Whilst their title defence has been nothing short of woeful so far this season the Foxes have been able to put it to the back of their minds when European games come calling and put in some superb performances.

Tonight was no different as they beat FC Copenhagen 1-0 to go top of Group G with a 100% win record so far and they now look good to qualify for the knockout stages, simply outstanding.

There's plenty to learn from this continuing football madness that the Foxes are offering us, in Europe at least, and so here are the five things we took away from another astonishing night at the King Power Stadium...

 Champions League the priority

As downbeat as it sounds, Leicester City are not going to win the Premier League this season.

They have been found out by their domestic opposition and it's clear to see they're not the side they were last year.

But, in the Champions League, teams are still trying to get to grips with them and with this being perhaps the only time they'll be in this competition they might as well properly go for it and forget the Premier League - their form suggests that much is true.

 Mahrez and Slimani developing relationship

The two Algerians linked up for the goal against Copenhagen with Slimani knocking the ball down for Mahrez to finish.

Sure, it wasn't the most amazing goal you'll see, not even from last year's player of the season, but it showed that he and the new signing are beginning to read from the same page. That new dynamic could help the club on all fronts this season as it grows.

 Vardy lacking confidence

Vardy was riding the crest of an astonishing wave last season but he looks a little bit washed up right now.

In fairness to him, matching last year would have been incredible but it seems as though the England international is lacking in self-belief. He had chances to score against Copenhagen but couldn't finish them and so the wait to end this slight drought goes on.

 Defence isn't all that bad

A lot has been made of the new rules on shirt pulling in the box seriously damaging Leicester's ability to defend and whilst there may be some substance to that argument, the Foxes didn't look too uneasy here.

A clean sheet is always going to boost confidence and Wes Morgan et al. will be pleased that on the biggest stage they can still record shut-outs - job done.

Last season's form hasn't completely gone

Yes, the Premier League has been poor but Leicester's results in Europe have shown that they do still have the ability to compete at a high level.

Three wins from three in relatively comfortable fashion, it has to be said, will have shown the players, fans and Claudio Ranieri, that they still have a lot to offer this season. This European journey is going well so far, then, and they'll be hoping to bring some of that positivity to the Premier League in the near future.
