Nampalys Mendy took his chance to impress in a Leicester City shirt despite the 2-1 loss against Burnley.

On the chalkboard

This was just Mendy's second Premier League start of the season, with his only other involvement outside of those being a substitute appearance against Sheffield United, which lasted one minute.

Considering how rare his chances in the team have been, the 27-year-old would have been keen to take it and impress Brendan Rodgers.

There will be plenty of frustration about the fact that they lost against their bottom-half opposition, but the Frenchman gave a tidy performance that can be seen as encouraging.

Taking his opportunity

The Frenchman looked very comfortable in the middle, which will be a good signal considering the limited amount of action he has had there.

His defensive contribution was clear to see, as he completed three of his four attempted tackles, as well as pulling off three interceptions.

Mendy may stand at 5 foot 6 inches tall, but he also managed to come out on top in the one aerial duel that he competed in.

There was also an assured nature about his manner on the ball, as 93% of his attempted passes reached their desired destination.

Even when the Frenchman didn't find his target, there was a positive sign to his thinking. An example of this is when he played the ball to the right flank, expecting Ricardo Pereira to have made the run, but the full-back had not done so, meaning he couldn't stop it going out of play.

It would be a step too far to indicate that Mendy has shown that he can challenge Wilfred Ndidi, as the Nigeria international is a superior player, especially defensively, averaging 4.3 tackles, 2.8 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game.

However, that shouldn't detract from the fact that he gave a good account of himself, in what has been a rare opportunity to play Premier League football.
